Edit9 is BAFTA-winning filmmaker Hal Watmough, who has been crafting stories all over the world for over 20 years, producing over 300 hours of film and TV, receiving BAFTA, RTA, NTA, Grierson, Rose D’Or and Broadcast awards.
After years in the edit suite refining the craft of storytelling, Hal began exploring the emerging world of generative filmmaking — not as a novelty, but as a new language for narrative. What began as curiosity (and a touch of existential dread about the future of the industry) quickly evolved into a genuine passion for what AI could offer: freedom, immediacy, and the chance to tell stories with fewer compromises.
His first AI-driven short, LATE, went on to win the inaugural Global AI Animation Competition, proving that technology doesn’t replace storytelling — it amplifies it. From there, Hal developed a personal roadmap for integrating AI into professional film production: starting with realism, moving through dynamism and fidelity, and now focusing on narrative and performance — using AI not to dazzle, but to move audiences.
Today, through his creative studio Edit9, Hal is building bridges between traditional production and the fast-evolving AI landscape. He’s developing shorts, pitch trailers, and documentaries that blend human performance with generative tools, exploring how technology can help filmmakers visualise and refine their stories faster, safer, and with more emotional precision.
Hal’s philosophy is simple: AI should disappear into the background so the story can take centre stage. He believes the next generation of filmmaking won’t be defined by who uses AI, but by who uses it well — who uses it to make audiences feel.

Your content will be delivered in every aspect ratio and format to match every platform that you want to post it to, if you want your film shared everywhere then make sure to include the Multi-Platform extra.
SELF-POST: INCLUDED
We will deliver your film(s) to you, clearly labelled and in the correct format, so then it's just up to you to decide when and where you want to post it.
FULL COVERAGE: - £200 PER FILM
We will take care of everything, this includes posting shorts and stories and making sure your content is shared everywhere you want and at the best times to post it. Let us take care of everything.
PAY-AS-YOU-GO:
For ultimate flexibility purchase credits as you need them. With a minimum order of 10 credits you can split your credits however you see fit and use them when and how you choose.
6-MONTH PLAN:
Save more with our subscriptions plans. Get a monthly allowance of credits of your choosing. And spend them however you like, on lots of snappy shorts, or epic masterpiece. Any unspent credits will be rolled over to the following month until the expiration of the subscription.
12-MONTH PLAN:
Take advantage of our biggest saving by signing up to our 12 month plan and completely transform your content. Not enough credits? Not a problem, adjust your allowance up or down whenever you need.
• WORKFLOW •
CONCEPT
Whether this comes from an object, a song, a poem, a slogan, or just people-watching outside the supermarket, concept development is without doubt the biggest and most important stage of the process. We often find that the more momentum a concept builds, the more ideas it attracts and the more layers it develops.
PLATES
Forget about the visuals, this is all about the sound. If the shots of a film are the story, then the audio is the emotion; a guide on meaning. So we build a storyboard of wish list shots cut to the soundtrack of our dreams and see if the two get along.
STILLS
At Edit9 we like AI to lend a hand but we don’t want it steering the ship. Generating the stills and developing the prompts to fine-tune the visual start-frames gives us far more control over style and consistency then just prompting directly into the motion generators. This also allows everyone to get the images out of their heads and on to the screen and make sure it’s roughly the same as what was in everyone else’s heads.
ANIMATE
By far the most exciting but also the most unpredictable stage of the process. Like trying to walk home drunk; not every thing moves the way you want it to, but there’s often unexpected beauty in that. Like all things, AI (currently) has limitations and it’s good to know what they are, but it’s also better to test them and see what happens.

We have the story, now it’s time to tell it right. We’re going to make a series of scenes into a great film. Anything that needs fixing, adding, or removing we do now by using a suite of powerful graphics and post-productions applications in order to achieve what we set out to do: story, structure and style.
FOLEY
&
GRADE
The most transformative stage of the whole film: when you hear it speak for the first time and it comes to life. Then grade it to bring it all together and send it out into the world to see what it can do.
DELIVER
Your film has been delivered, but as devoted as you were to your creation, we can guarantee that you will have had other ideas behind it’s back. Your next story is already building momentum because that’s why we’re all here: to tell our stories. So let’s go again.
